4th of July: What is Your Deal?

Here's what's I don't get with this holiday: How is it a good thing to have to wake up at 7:30 to go to some pancake breakfast? It's not that I'm unwilling to wake up early, there just has to be a better payoff--Bisquik in the park does not quite add up to Christmas morning, in my humble estimation.

Of course, if it were French toast, that would be another matter entirely.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Okay okay okay, I retract that COMPLETELY.  Not that pancakes are good; the whole early morning breakfast thing is still pretty lame.   However, I retract my sassing the holiday itself, because recently (the last 10 minutes) I discovered the reason that the 4th is a cool holiday:  it celebrates what is the best in American culture.  No, not pancake breakfasts, not parades, not small town community events.  The gem of American culture is cable networks playing Jaws all afternoon.  The truest conflict that can ever enter a true patriot's bosom is the grim decision; which to I watch, Jaws, or the Will Smith bio on E! ?  But seriously guys, I'm not being funny here:  what is more American than Jaws and/or Will Smith?  NOTHING.  I'm pretty sure Zombie Thomas Paine spends most of his time these days watching Will Smith and/or Steven Speilberg movies and thinking, "Wow, truly this is What It Is About."

Well, that, and eating brains.

Hey Katy-- I am totally with you on that whole pancake breakfast thing--it would be more American to sleep in and start watching Jaws in your pajamas. Glad I found your blog!

Will Smith = all american, or I guess all american's dream. Girls want him, boys want to be him. it's all the same. I wasn't in civilization for the fourth, however, I find it odd that I too had pancakes for breakfast. But mine came at 9 in the morning.

Ok I had NO idea that a Will Smith bio was on! But I guess that's good because then I would have had the same conflict, and I'm glad I watched Jaws all day. Also, I watched Independence Day, and I'm pretty sure that's all about Will Smith's real life right?
