Okay okay okay, so, I caved to some baser cravings and read Breaking Dawn. Because you know, as much as I love to hate Stephanie Meyer's books, I also love to read the dang things. It's like Slurm in Futurama--even when you know it's alien worm slime, you're still willing to chew your arms off to get more. Anyway, I'm a fair way through it, and I must say, it seems as though our pal Steph finally realized that most of the times books have these things called 'plots,' and therefore they oft-times contain actual 'events,' and you know, things kind of 'progress' along a 'storyline.' This new found knowledge has certainly improved the reading experience.

However, that is not the real purpose here. The thing is, the most attention grabbing things about this book so far have been puzzling word-choice moments! Okay, so I guess that makes me kind of weird, but you know, that's just how it is. I can't pass over the word "comradeship" (p. 473) without coming to a full stop and thinking "WHOA whoa whoa, what the heck? Comrade-SHIP? Um? Is there something somehow distasteful about good old fashioned 'camaraderie'? What, you think you're better than us?" --okay, to be perfectly honest, it did take me like 7 minutes and like 3 differnt kinds of spell check to spell that right, and I guess it looks kind of weird spelled out, and maybe 'comradeship' is more obvious and fits the youngish market better...? But um no, that is no excuse for using a stupid sounding version of a word that is pretty cool. The other one was "instinctual." That one, I'll admit, is pretty much just a personal preference of mine--"instinctive" comes to mind much more, ahem, instinctively, perhaps aided by the fact that in my head I hear Gary Oldman saying it in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead.

Nancy would like to know who the editor of BD is and that he/she/they should look for another line of work.

Nancy is reading eclipse and has not yet begun to savor BD.

I am reading "The Future of Governing" by B. Guy Peters ... A real page turner I might add. The entire book is like reading a book comprised wholly of paragraphs from the GRE reading comprehension section. Lots of fun.
